How To Block Adware From Your PC
Adware is advertising software which displays advertisements whilst a program is running on your personal computer. Adware is quite openly and deliberately bundled with free software downloads as the revenue it produces helps programmers to recover programming and development costs and it even helps to make the actual application available free of charge. Adware companies are extremely active at the moment with new versions of Adware software being released on a daily basis. It is for this reason that Adware needs to be blocked if you want your computer to be advertisement free. Adware companies generate revenue by circulating thousands of ads over the internet. The Adware itself is a piece of software that displays advertising banners and pop up screens, usually whilst its 'host' program is running.
Collecting Personal Details Adware is used to profile your online surfing habits and to record how you spend your money. In this way you can be served advertisements specifically selected to appeal to you. Adware is not a virus and its effects are certainly less noticeable than a virus but it can be a greater risk to your computer. Adware and Spyware are both malicious files created to be installed on computers just like yours, usually without the owner's consent. All Adware and Spyware is circulated for monetary gain but some of it has a more sinister purpose in that it can be the basis for sophisticated Internet frauds and scams including identity theft. Whilst Adware is not designed to steal personal information its presence does indicate an Internet security violation and where Adware exists Spyware is usually present. To block Adware is to also block Spyware which ensures the safety of your computer system. Pop-Up Blockers Ineffective A simple pop-up blocker does not stop Adware. It may slow things down a little but Adware will prevail. The one vital action all computer owners and users can take in respect of their machines is to install and use an effective Adware and Spyware blocker. Having said that only a handful of computer users know about Adware and Spyware and even less choose to run any kind of Adware and Spyware blocker. One way to block Adware is to stop Adware companies from sending you the programs in the first place and you can do this by never downloading anything other than from a reputable supplier and always reading the license conditions first. This of course isn't always practical. A more technical solution to the problem of Adware is to identify and edit the host's file on your computer but this is a solution which is beyond the technical abilities of most personal computer users. The bulk of us are left with the final option of removing the Adware that already exists on our hard drives and then installing an Adware blocker to prevent reinfection. |
