Spyware causes a negative impact in a number of different ways. It compromises the computer user's privacy by gathering their personal information and distributing it to others. It can use a dial up modem to place premium rate calls to a number owned by the Spyware originator. It can interfere with the running of the legitimate programs stored on the hard drive and is notorious for impeding connectivity to the internet. The nature of the way it installs itself means many hidden files can remain even after a disk clean up operation has been conducted and very often these hidden files can regenerate the Spyware software.
